Even though we are getting into the colder months, fireworks continue to be a hot topic for the Perry City Council.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says the general direction of the Council is to try banning fireworks. Peterson explains an important part of making that change.

“I think an important part of that is bringing the police department into that conversation to really figure out operationally and budgetarily what do we need to do to be able to effectively or at least somewhat enforce this and be able to get out and educate people on the proper use or the fact that they are not able to be used at all.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio a couple of different draft ordinances will be created for the Council to review.

“In the next couple of meetings we could have some changes to that.”

Peterson says the potential for the change of location of where fireworks could be sold seems to have been moved on from during these conversations. The discussions surrounding fireworks began earlier this year after numerous complaints and concerns were heard by the Council regarding the most recent Fourth of July holiday.
