With reports nationally of increasing  supply chain issues and inflation, it has hit a local restaurant in Guthrie County.

Stuart Chamber of Commerce President and Country Kitchen Owner Ryan Morrison explains it’s a difficult time to get supplies in the food industry. Morrison has talked to other restaurants and they often see the same things happening.

“Often things don’t make it on the truck, substitutions of lower quality of products are happening, or we just don’t get the stuff for weeks or even months on end so what we do get has been lower quality or reduced quantity so.”

Morrison says some solutions have been pushing items that they have more quantity of or traveling to another grocery store, or to Des Moines to get products. Morrison has seen an increase in the price of products they are buying.

“I know our average food cost have gone up almost 30 percent in five months, when it’s such a major part of your expenses and it increases so dramatically it drastically throws off the financial balance of your business so.”

Morrison reminds  customers that food establishments may have to change their menus and prices as this situation continues to evolve.
