The Dallas County Board of Supervisors conducted the first tier canvass of the recent city/school elections at their regular meeting Tuesday.
County Auditor Julia Helm said this year’s voter turnout was unprecedented and included lines all the way until the polls closed at 8 p.m. November 2nd. Helm explains two tiers of canvasses are needed as some areas cross county lines and the Board does two canvasses due to needing the canvass results from other counties.
Also, the Board approved the redistricting map of Dallas County for the supervisor boundaries and the Board was appreciative of the commission in charge of the map. Helm discussed the potential for reprecincting which she says will potentially be discussed with the Board next week.
Finally, the Board approved family farm tax credit applications, utility valuations, a Carriage House restoration project change order and held a public hearing on a fiscal year 2022 budget amendment which was then approved as presented.
The Board then discussed the potential for future county and court space needs including possible locations for additional court space, including the old jail facility, a new building, or other places. The Board also discussed what the long term goals are for the courthouse and took no action following the discussion.
