ekpharsis-at-night

A new event is happening this weekend in Jefferson that focuses on the arts.

Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community Tower View Team Chair Deb McGinn says “Ekphrasis” will take place this Sunday from 2-3:30pm at History Boy Theatre Company. She explains that Ekphrasis is a Greek word that refers to a form of writing, usually poetry, where the author describes another work of art, usually visual art.

“So we have ten artists that have given their work to ten different poets, and then we randomly chose a poet to send a visual piece of artwork to. And then each poet has written a piece describing the artwork that they received.”

McGinn notes that all artists and poets are from Greene County and those are currently on display now at the Masonic Lodge on the west side of the downtown square in Jefferson. She says the Ekphrasis event will have the artists and poets on hand to talk about the process that they went through to come to the final product. Refreshments will be available during the free event.
