One Perry High School athletic coach will soon be recognized with an award that has only been received by eight  other people related to the sport of swimming. 

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union will be honoring Perry Swim Coach Jean Dowd at the State Swimming and Diving meet this Saturday at the Marshalltown YMCA. Dowd will become only the ninth swim-related recipient of the Golden Plaque of Distinction Award. Dowd led a Perry swim team that qualified for six different events at state this year. 

The Golden Plaque of Distinction Award honors an Iowa coach who demonstrates a successful career while making notable contributions toward school, community and the coaching profession.

The Jayettes will participate in six events at the state meet including the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Also, individuals including Jaylene Karolus for the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly as well as Quin Mahler-Moreno for the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
