A popular time for hunters in Guthrie County is coming up.
Department Of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy Kings says the first shotgun season is approaching and it’s a tradition that Iowans look forward to.
“It’s kind of a time where families and friends get together and it’s an opportunity to go out and spend a couple days deer hunting as a group and there is a lot of tradition to it.”
King says Iowa has something that other states don’t offer which is party hunting which allows members of a group to share the same valid deer tags for that season. Kings states there are certain laws hunters have to obey which includes tagging a buck by its antler and a doe by its foot 15 minutes after the deer has been killed. A hunter must then report it using the “Go Outdoors Iowa” app on a mobile device or by calling the number on the tag within 24 hours. The first shotgun season is from December 4th through December 8th and shooting hours can also be found at the Iowa DNR website.
