The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
The Board approved Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams to assume the duties of County Emergency Management Coordinator until the Emergency Management Commission recommended the replacement for the now retired Dennis Morlan. The Board then approved the two proposed opioid distributor settlements and release of claims as presented. County Attorney Thomas Laehn said the funds that Greene County would receive over the next 18 years from a statewide lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies can only be used on certain opioid-specific items.

The Board then approved a certificate of cost allocation plan for the 2021 fiscal year as presented, as part of the indirect cost recovery from the Iowa Department of Human Services; and the adoption of Wolf Hollow Creek to the U.S. Board of Geographic Names. There was an unnamed tributary in Cedar Township that feeds into Cedar Creek that had not been named and landowner Jeff Pundez applied for the name of Wolf Hollow Creek. The Board also approved the annual urban renewal report for the 2021 fiscal year.
A presentation was also made by Latino IQ Vice President Carlos Arguello about the Greene County Diversity Project. He told the Board that they are proposing to focus on three aspects to help drive the Latino population to work, live and play in Greene County. Those components include: labor force, housing and community involvement. He believed the stigma of the language barrier will not exist within the next 20 years, as the younger generation of the Latino population is speaking English as the primary language.
Arguello proposed a three year contract with a total of $150,000. Greene County Development Corporation Executive Director Ken Paxton said they spoke with 12 other businesses in the county, including Landus Cooperative, Greene County Medical Center, Wild Rose Casino and Resort, Power Lift and other places. Each business gave a letter of support to the project, as well as financial support. GCDC President Sid Jones mentioned a future request from the County Supervisors of $5,000 towards advertising and they also asked for a letter of support. The Board took no action following the presentation and discussion.
