If people enjoy putting up decorations for the holiday season, there are important reminders on safety while doing so.
Perry Fire Chief Chris Hinds gives several reminders when it comes to using inflatables and other outdoor decorations.
“We want to point out that you should only purchase ones that have an underwriter laboratory listed label on them so that we know that they are tested, and they are rated and safe to use. Always carefully follow the manufacturers instructions in regards to the way they are supposed to be used.”
Hinds tells Raccoon Valley Radio the LED lights that people may use outside for decorating can be a fire hazard if they aren’t used properly or if the lights are damaged.
“Use only equipment that has good condition to them. No cracks or breaks in the wiring or anything like that.”
Hinds says most exterior lights will have safety precautions, such as a fuse, and when people are shopping for holiday lights they should make sure they have this fuse so that if something such as water entering the lights were to happen the fuse would prevent the lights from causing a fire or safety hazard.
