With the recent approval for the COVID-19 booster vaccine to be given to adults 18 and older, Greene County Public Health is ready to administer those shots.

Director Becky Wolf explains the importance of getting the COVID-19 booster.

“The reason we do boosters is because we know that with each particular vaccine it may or may not provide long term immunity. What we know with the coronavirus is that if a person has had the first two doses of the vaccine, our antibodies that fight the virus off, they start to wane or weaken with the immunity after about six months. And so that’s why we want to boost the immunity so that it pops that protection up.”

Wolf highly recommends those 50 and older and individuals who are 18 and older who are in a long-term setting to especially get the vaccine booster. She points out that you will only receive one dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine and it is best to wait at least six months after the second dose of the regular vaccine.
