Greene County began the high school wrestling season by winning all three dual meets in Van Meter on Tuesday night. Coach Zach Beekman’s Rams started with a 64-18 victory over PCM (Monroe), then followed that with a 52-27 win over Ogden, before ending the evening with a 60-15 victory vs. Van Meter. Ogden was 2-1 on the night with PCM 1-2 and VM 0-3.

Greene County was a combined 30-11 for the three dual meets and five of the losses were due to forfeits.  The Rams piled up 22 falls, two technical falls, one major decision, and five forfeits among their individual victories.

Seven Rams went 3-0 on the evening. That list includes freshman Gavyn Winters at 106 lbs., junior McKinley Robbins 132 lbs., senior Brenner Gallagher 138 lbs., sophomore Gavin Scheuermann 152 lbs., senior Nate Black 160 lbs., sophomore Michael Rumley 220 lbs. and sophomore Broc Hamman 285. Black, Winters and Robbins won all their matches by fall with Black and Winters not going beyond the first period. Gallagher and Scheuermann both had two falls and a technical fall, with Rumley collecting a pair of falls and a forfeit, and Hamman collecting two forfeits and a fall.

The competition ramps up considerable this weekend when Greene County competes in the Independence Mustang two-day Friday and Saturday tournament east of Waterloo in Buchanan County.
