The first shotgun deer hunting season opens today in Iowa.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King reminds hunters about tagging deer requirements..
“If you shoot a buck, it has to be tagged on the antler, and if you shoot a doe it has to be tagged on the foot. And the requirements on tagging it is you have to tag it within 15 minutes before it’s moved or whichever occurs first. So basically, as soon as you kill a deer, you’re going to need to put a tag on it.”
King states hunters must also report the deer that is killed by using the DNR app or using the number listed on the tag. King says hunters have until midnight until the day after the deer is harvested.
