The Perry High School Music Department is currently fundraising for their New York City trip next year, and it’s going well so far.

Multiple fundraisers have been taking place including popcorn sales at the Perry Grand 3 Theatre along with receiving money from the Bock Family Foundation in the amount of $4,000 toward the trip. Vocal Director Jenn Nelson talks about where they are at.

“We are doing pretty well, between student payments that they have made and also fundraising and some donations that have come in, we are right at about $100,000. In order to fully fund the trip it would take about $155,000 and of course in the meantime students and chaperones are continuing to make payments.”

Nelson tells Raccoon Valley Radio they are fundraising to lower the overall out of pocket cost for students, which they have lowered the cost about $500 per student so far. Nelson says there will be more fundraising upcoming.

“We also are planning to do our butter braid sale again in January. That was really successful for us last winter and we’ve had a lot of requests to bring that back. Just continuing with some fundraisers like that until our trip in March.”

Nelson says people can also make a donation at any time by coming into the school and writing a check, cash or credit or debit card; or mail a check, earmarked for the New York City trip, which is planned for March of 2022.
