Four area high school basketball teams are in action tonight in Churdan when West Central Valley visits Churdan to face the Paton-Churdan teams on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com in two non-conference games. The girls play at 6 p.m. followed by the boys’ contest. WCV girls are 2-3 and the boys are 1-4.

The P-C squads were postponed Friday vs. West Harrison by weather and the games were played on Saturday in Mondamin. The home team won the girls’ game by a final of 44-38 and the boys’ game 70-38. Both P-C teams are 0-4 heading into tonight’s contests.

Down 28-17 at the half, the P-C girls mounted a second half comeback that fell short. Among the differences was the amount of free throws attempts. P-C was 10 for 12 and WH went 18 of 31. Both teams made 12 field goals, but it took the Rockets 56 attempts to just 34 for the Hawks. Turnovers were nearly even with 16 by P-C and 14 from WH. Carmyn Paup had 18 rebounds, 11 points, and five assists to lead the Rockets. Hannah Behrens had 13 points.

In the boys’ contest, WH improved to 6-1 and they led 38-25 at halftime, then blew the contest wide open with a 26-2 advantage in the third quarter. Justin Stream scored nine points with Joe Carey at eight and Shaydon Thurman seven. Stream and Thurman each had five rebounds. Thurman and Bradyn Smith each had two assists, and Smith stole the ball twice.

The Rockets continue a string of three games in four days when they go to Glidden to face the Glidden-Ralston teams on Tuesday night.
