Jefferson families looking for some entertainment for their kids during winter break can sign up for a couple of programs with the Jefferson Public Library.

Youth Services Librarian Stephanie Hall says Family Story Time will be held on December 22nd and 29th from 10-11:30am in the children’s department. The event not only includes a group story, but also games and crafts. She talks about how successful this event was last month.

“Last month we held our first Family Story Time since I’ve been here and we had over 45 people here. But it was fun. We read around three stories, they did crafts, they socialized, they played with games, checked out books. And this was all done prior to the library opening, so we are the only ones here at the library at that time.”

As for those who are in 6th-8th grade, there will be Teen Gaming Days on the same days at Family Story Time on December 22nd and 29th, but with a different time from 1-3pm. Hall says December 22nd is going to be board game day and the 29th is card game day. She describes how this idea came together.

“This kind of stemmed from the idea of just getting together. I have a small group of middle school boys that would come in here and they would sit around and play different things and they’d come over to the children’s side everyone once in a while and pop in and say, ‘Hi.’ That’s kind of where this stemmed from. Just their input of what would be kind of fun to have.”

Registration deadline for Family Story Time is December 20th and the Teen Gaming Days registration deadline is December 21st. Both programs are free.
