As school districts approach the midway point of the school year, one local school has managed COVID-19 well so far.
Perry School Superintendent Clark Wicks says for the first half of the school year he feels the mitigation process has gone well as COVID-19 cases throughout the district have remained low as each week the district releases the number of cases.
“We have been extremely, extremely pleased on how low the numbers are, it is less than a quarter of a percent. It has varied from one for the whole district to up to I think our top was seven at one point. So, at this stage (I’m) very pleased, very safe to be there and let’s hope that we can keep things going.”
Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio in terms of mitigation efforts the district has taken a similar approach to how COVID-19 was managed last year. Some things have changed as schools can no longer require masks.
“The cleaning part has stayed the course which has been great, our ventilation system has stayed the course which I think has helped.”
Wicks says the hopes are for the trend in low cases of COVID-19 to continue for the rest of the school year.
