This year’s weather has been conducive to construction projects, even including the month of December with consistently warmer than normal temperatures.
Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says his crews were able to do two smaller projects for the former AirTemp building and the Centennial building that connects to the Funky Zebra. Morlan says there’s two buildings at each location, each with only one water line that feeds into both buildings at both sites.
“Because they are separating those off we had to go cut the street, where the water main is, and then bore under the street, and then put new curb boxes in, and run it into the building there. So that each one had a water supply.”
Morlan talks about another major goal that city crews reached that was started four years ago with sealcoating each of the city’s alleyways.
“All the alleys in town, we’ve been working on a quadrant a year, trying to get all the alleys in town sealcoated. This year we were able to accomplish that for the first go around. From here on out we’ll just have to go back and re-sealcoat where they’re needed. The freeze-thaw (cycle) in the spring is really rough on the sealcoated roads like that and that’s when they get tore up.”
Morlan says other projects that happened this year include crack sealing all streets north of Lincoln Way and South Mulberry was re-done with an asphalt overlay and a sealcoat on top. Morlan is hoping to begin crack sealing streets south of Lincoln Way next year, along with re-doing Gallup Road on the north side of town.
