A long-serving administrator in the Greene County School District will be retiring at the end of the current school year.
The Greene County School Board accepted the retirement resignation of Elementary Principal Scott Johnson at their most recent meeting in December. Superintendent Tim Christensen says Johnson started as the middle school principal and then shifted to being the elementary principal within his 19 years of service to the Jefferson-based school district. He was also the district’s activities director for when Christensen first became the district superintendent, which Christensen jokingly says Johnson doesn’t have fond memories of.
With the announcement of Johnson’s retirement, Christensen talks about the plan to hire his replacement.
“We do have some people on staff that have their administrative degree, that it would be our intent to begin with to advertise for the position internally, and go through that interview process. If again, those individuals do apply for the position. But we will look internally first and then if we are not satisfied with candidates, or if no one applies, then we’ll look outside (the district).”
Christensen thanks Johnson for his leadership and service to the district and believes he is looking forward to his retirement from education.
