The long wait to wrestle for Greene County High School isn’t over yet for Kale Petersen, but it’s getting closer. The Class 1A 106 lbs. 2021 State Champion for West Fork (Sheffield) transferred to Greene County HS in Jefferson at the start of the current academic year. Since his family didn’t establish residency, he has to wait 90 school days before he’s eligible to wrestle for the Rams. Like 2021 State Champion McKinley Robbins for Greene County, Petersen wrestles all year long for Sebolt Wrestling Academy, which moved to Jefferson in the summer of 2020.
The junior plans to be at 120 lbs. later this month when his eligibility is restored, and he talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the transfer. “It was a hard choice. I’m living with my coach, TJ Sebolt now, and my family lives about two hours away from me. But I came here to be closer to Sebolt, and I came here for my own good.”
The exact date when he’s eligible depends on things out of Petersen’s control, such as the weather. Each day there is no school for any reason, his eligibility date is pushed back by a day. As it is now, he’s scheduled to be eligible for three tournaments and no dual meets before the postseason begins.
The full interview with Kale Petersen can be heard on the PM Sports Page KG98 Edition tonight on 98.9 FM, which begins at 6 o’clock.
