With a new year comes a new legislative session for Iowa lawmakers, and one representative previews what to expect.

Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says when it comes to the upcoming legislative session, which is slated to begin next week, taxes will be an important topic. Nordman explains some of his thoughts on cutting back on taxes.

“We have seen Iowa’s economy grow and it’s just tremendous growth throughout this last year, and our reserves of the Iowa government is full, and we have been over collecting on taxpayer dollars. And it is time that we give that money back and we are going to be looking at doing that in the quickest and most effective way possible.”

Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio lawmakers want to give Iowans a little more money in their pockets to combat the ongoing inflation.

“It’s not the government’s money, it’s the taxpayers money and when we have over collected the amount that we have, we have to get that pack into Iowan’s pockets. Because always Iowan’s know how to spend their money better than the government.”

The 2022 legislative session is set to begin on January 10th.
