The Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area continues to be under a winter storm warning.

The National Weather Service has issued the warning for Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties until 6am Saturday. Weatherology Meteorologist Jennifer Wojcicki tells Raccoon Valley Radio about 1-3 inches of snowfall is expected between 1-4pm, with more coming after that.

“And then we’ll have an additional 4-6 inches of snowfall coming into tonight. So the worst parts of the storm are going to be mainly coming in later on this evening, probably a little bit closer to around the overnight hours tonight. And with that some areas of patchy, blowing snow. So anyone who’s out (and) caught in this, it’s going to cause low visibility, particularly if you’re driving. So definitely something to keep in mind as you’re out and about.”

The National Weather Service is expecting wind gusts as high as 30 miles per hour.

Wojcicki points out that during the day, the snowfall will be wet and heavy, but during the overnight hours when the temperature drops to below freezing, the snowfall will become lighter.
