Thursday night at Greene County High School five new members of the Greene County High School Hall of Fame were inducted by Activities Director Todd Gordon. Pam Slock Sanders, East Greene Class of 1961 was inducted for girls’ basketball, Rosemary Holden Hoyt, track & field Scranton ’75, Erik Strawn, Jefferson ’82, Kris Curnyn Hagedorn, Jefferson-Scranton ’94, Adam Jones, J-S ’98 are the newest inductees.
Holden Hoyt was part of five State Championships in high school (four individual, one relay), and was an All-American at Iowa State University. The Jefferson resident has seen the sport evolve in many ways since the 1970’s when she reached tremendous heights in the sport despite the school not having a track. “No track, no home meets, nothing like that. We had terrible uniforms! They were old when I was a freshman and we had the same uniforms when I graduated. But, that didn’t keep us slowed down any. That didn’t matter.”
She also lifted weights, which wasn’t common for high school athletes then, especially females. “That was because my arms got tired when I ran, so my sophomore (year) coach, I had three different coaches, said ‘We could have you lift some weights,’ so I lifted weights and it did help!”
Rosemary and her husband David, have lived in Jefferson for many years. Their four grown children were all in attendance Thursday night.
