Winter conditions have hit west central Iowa and motorists are encouraged to drive with caution.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf emphasises braking in the winter snow and ice conditions.

You know, some of the things that are really (to) remember about, you know, is especially about stopping, you know, you want to break early and break slowly.”

Kempf advises to  avoid any sudden steering maneuvers and always turn the steering wheel towards the direction the vehicle is sliding. He adds keeping a full tank of gas and snacks can be helpful if a motorist gets stuck on the road.
