With increasing COVID-19 cases across Iowa, public health agencies are constantly updating and ensuring they have adequate numbers of vaccines on hand.

Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf says they have all approved vaccines in supply, including Pfizer for those 16 and older, the Pfizer Pediatric for kids 5-11 and Moderna and Johnson and Johnson for those 18 and older. She talks about how they monitor their vaccines.

“We try to keep maybe about 100 or so of each vaccine on hand. Each vaccine has a specific expiration date on it that is issued by the manufacturer. And so we mark those vaccines when we keep them in our fridge or the freezer to ensure that we’re always using the oldest, and making sure that we stay within that expiration period to not give something that’s expired.”

Wolf points out that if a neighboring public health agency needs additional vaccine doses and if they have some they can give they will and vice versa for them. She adds that public health also has free COVID-19 take home tests for those that need them.
