Governor Kim Reynolds gave her Condition of the State address last week  and discussed giving $1,000 in retention bonuses for teachers, law enforcement and correctional staff. 

District 20 State Representative Ray Sorensen echoes that sentiment that the retention bonus is a step towards giving thanks to the valuable workers during the pandemic. Sorensen states that he is open to increasing the amount of the bonus but it has to make sense. 

“And you also don’t want to, you know, get ahead of yourself budgeting. Conservative budgeting principles have us in a place where we have one of the best economies in the Union. So you know, there’s all going to take time to unravel again.”

Sorensen explains this subject will have to be sorted out through the Iowa House and Senate..
