U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne
During a recent campaign stop in Greene County, U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne shared her thoughts on the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Biden Administration’s COVID vaccine mandate.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court struck down the Biden Administration’s mandate for businesses with 100 or more employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or be subject to weekly testing and required to wear a mask while at the workplace. However, the Supreme Court also upheld the mandate for healthcare facilities and workers. Axne commented on that decision.
“I don’t agree with the decision that they made. I do believe that right now COVID is a workplace hazard for so many people. They can’t control it when they get to the workplace. You’re standing next to somebody and you have no idea if they are vaccinated. You could be working a line with them and that’s all you have is their breath all day long. I do believe it poses a hazard, but I respect our highest court’s ruling and it is what it is.”
Axne continues to advocate for vaccines and wearing masks for continuity of business. She talked about whether or not Congress should step in and create legislation regarding vaccine mandates.
“It’s not something that we’re going to take up. I think at this point the President’s accepted where things are at and we’re going to have to look at all the options to keep people safe.”
Axne said ways that Congress can help to keep people safe from the virus is providing N95 masks to citizens, getting tests to those who don’t want to be vaccinated but are willing to be tested and getting vaccines in younger kids.
