With the Iowa Legislative Session currently underway, education and more efforts on broadband will once again be a focal point.

State Senator for District 10 Jake Chapman says education and giving parents more choice will be an important topic during the session.

“Obviously, the issue of education and empowering parents to make the choices for their students. The governor highlighted that in her (Condition of the State) speech that we need the ability to tear down those financial barriers that prevent parents from being able to make those choices and so I think there is going to be a lot of discussion on school choice about how we can help parents be able to make those decisions for their kids.”

Chapman tells Raccoon Valley Radio other items will include discussions on biofuels, gun rights as well as broadband. Chapman says they will continue to improve broadband internet access.

“I’m sure there’s going to be conversation about broadband and how we have injected hundreds of millions of dollars for infrastructure in our state and how we can continue to improve and make sure that every Iowan is connected through broadband.”

Chapman says lawmakers will be looking to keep the session moving forward in a quicker manner which he says will lead to action being taken earlier in the session.
