At the latest Panora City Council meeting they heard from a local engineering firm about a major street project.

Mayor Pat Parker says Snyder and Associates engineering firm discussed the Jackson Street project, which is estimated to cost just a little over $1.3 million. Parker explains the city prioritized updating their storm sewers and Jackson Street has been one of the last projects to address.

Jackson Street also has a water line that runs up to there that’s got lead based joints. So there’s a water quality issue that we’re addressing at the same time.”

Parker says some of the plans have changed since the project was approved this past August.

MidAmerican natural gas line on the north side of the road, they’ve shifted the storm sewer over to the south side. The storm water will be on the south side of the road. The new water line is on the south side of the road, but then that also affects the city’s electric line that runs up to there. So those things kind of changed a little bit about the plan. But other than that the preliminary estimates are still fairly close on track.”

Parker states the plan is to talk to homeowners around Jackson Street and have a bid ready by the end of February with construction to start in early April.
