The Greene County School District is changing the landscape of classroom technology.
Director of Technology Brent Gerzema says every classroom in the district is now using a Clevertouch. He notes the 65-inch flat panel display is like a giant tablet with it’s own Android operating system that can support most Android apps and it has whiteboard capabilities. Gerzema points out the Clevertouch is interactive and has a 20-point touchscreen, which can also allow multiple students to do work simultaneously. He describes one example that a first grade classroom is doing with the Clevertouch.
“They’re doing the handwriting stuff, and the sentence structure, and they’re correcting grammatical errors, and things like that. Then they are blasting those out to the kids later on.”
Gerzema explains another benefit of this new technology is how teachers can deliver their lesson materials for the day through the whiteboard system.
“They can save them to their Google Drive, because we’re a full Google School at Greene County Schools, and they can share them with their students on Google Classroom. So the students would have that lesson that they went through for the day on Google Drive or Google Classroom, so they can review that stuff for later.”
Gerzema adds the Clevertouches at the high school was part of the bond referendum that was passed to build the new facility and the other Clevertouches for the elementary and middle schools were paid for through COVID-19 relief funds as part of the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds.
