The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, Greene County Recorder Deb McDonald addressed the Board. She said a bill was being worked on in the Iowa House  last week that would allow all-terrain vehicles and off-road vehicles to be on county highways and would not allow counties to regulate, limit or prohibit the use of those vehicles. McDonald was in favor of the legislation, but because she said the bill stalled, she then asked the Supervisors to reconsider passing its own ordinance, as currently ATVs and UTVs are only allowed by farming operations and animal husbandry. The Board took no action following the discussion.

The Board also held a lengthy discussion with County Attorney Thomas Laehn regarding an amended 28E agreement with Central Iowa Community Services mental health region. Laehn had issues with two different procedures of allowing new counties to join the region. However, he didn’t advise the Board to not approve the agreement. The Board approved the agreement and the issues of adding new counties would be handled through a separate resolution.

The Board also approved a letter of support for the Jefferson Fire Department to apply for a Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant to purchase a used 8,000 gallon water tanker truck. They also approved an agreement with Pratum to audit and advise the incident response plan and tests for elections for $3,540, which was paid for by the state grant from the Secretary of State’s office.
