With the latest efforts from the U.S. Senate to pass a voting rights bill, a representative for Iowa discusses the safety of Iowa elections.
State Representative of District 20 Ray Sorensen says he wants the elections to be easy to vote and hard to cheat and the latest federal proposed voting rights bill does the opposite.
“You can create safeguards to protect the integrity of our elections and have record turnout because that’s what we’ve done. That’s what we’ve passed the Freedom to Vote Act for me, it has radical ideas like allowing campaign staff to harvest ballots and that threatens our voter ID law.”
Sorensen says in Iowa they have taken steps to keep the election process safe and secure and still see record turnout. Iowa has passed bill in 2020 to shorten the early voting process to 20 days, require those who are requesting an absentee ballot show ID and issuing technical infractions to county auditors who don’t follow state law with elections.
