As many people announce their campaigns for public office, Sonya Heitshusen recently announced her campaign for an Iowa House seat that includes parts of Dallas County.

Heitshusen announced her campaign for Iowa House District 28 which includes parts of Dallas County including Van Meter and Adel and parts of rural Dallas County. Heitshusen says education is a major topic for her in why she is running.

“I am going to fight to get money into the classrooms for our teachers and our kids. They need our support now more than ever because of the pandemic. I am appalled by the recent inflammatory rhetoric that suggests that we should send teachers to prison or that they have a ‘sinister agenda’ in promoting incest and pedophilia, I think that’s ridiculous. I know teachers, that’s not their priority at all. They want to teach our kids in a safe environment, what that is, is politics at its worst.”

Heitshusen tells Raccoon Valley Radio she would fight for constituents and would fight for what they feel they need in their community.

“I want to help Iowans be the most successful they can be, I want to help Iowans understand that this is a welcoming state and if we all work together we can achieve great things. As I said I think Iowa is a great state, I think we have a lot of talented people here, we need to keep them here in the state and that’s what I am going to do, fight for you and for what you believe is right for your community.”

Heitshusen will be running in District 28 which was created with parts of Dallas County after the most recent redistricting process. Heitshusen is running as a member of the Democratic Party.
