The Iowa House and Senate have made their respective proposals when it comes to additional funding for k-12 public education.
District 47 Representative Phil Thompson of Boone tells Raccoon Valley Radio the House is proposing 2.5-percent for School Supplemental Aid, or about $155 million of additional revenue funding for public school districts and the Senate is proposing 2.25-percent. The Iowa House Democrats countered with a five-percent increase in SSA funding, but Thompson explains why the House Republicans believe their proposal is a sound investment.
“We’re talking about $155 million, that’s two-thirds of our new money, of our new revenue. We’re confident that we are investing in our schools. We’re showing that two-thirds of our moniess are going to this and we’re proud of our investment of $155 million just for SSA.”
Thompson adds the House is also proposing additional funding for transportation equity, which is something the Greene County School District needs as the eighth largest geographical school district in the state.
