The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.
The Council approved a plat of survey for 105 and 107 North Chestnut, as the City wants to split the two parcels apart for the former AirTemp building with two interested potential purchasers. The Council also approved the quarterly funding request for Greene County Development Corporation and heard a Highway 30 Coalition presentation from President Adam Schweers.
Schweers said the Coalition hired engineering firm Snyder and Associates to conduct an economic impact study of 40 miles from Ogden to Carroll and from Lisbon to DeWitt. The group will use the study to present to the Iowa Department of Transportation for those areas to be a four lane road. The total amount for the study is $97,000. Schweers asked for $5,000 from the City of Jefferson, while also securing $5,000 from GCDC.
The Council then held a budget workshop. The City is proposing a slight increase for the overall property tax levy of $15.32 per $1,000 of property valuation. They also decided to designate $5,000 to the Highway 30 Coalition for the study.
During reports, Building Official Chad Stevens mentioned the footings and foundation has been poured for the animal shelter and the exterior walls and roof will be delivered by the end of February. Police Chief Mark Clouse reported that the DOT has secured funding and the project received approval to install new turning lanes on Grimmell Road to Highway 30 to provide better traffic safety near the high school.
