The Iowa State Classic indoor track & field meet was held Feb. 11-12 in Ames at the Lied Student Recreation Center. Carter Morton of Jefferson competed for U. of Northern Iowa and Danielle Hoyle of Churdan competed for Iowa State.
Morton was third in the long jump for men at 22′ 9″ (6.93 meters) and he placed seventh in the high jump at 6′ 6′-1/4″ (1.99 meters). He is a 2020 Greene County High School grad who is does the heptathlon (7 events) indoors and decathlon (10 events) outdoors at the bigger meets. At the other meets, Morton takes part in select events, which was the case at ISU.
Hoyle is an infant as far as being a thrower. A 2021 Class 1A State discus throw champion with barely any experience in the event, she walked on to the Cyclones’ women’s team and is competing well in the 20 lbs. weight throw indoors. Hoyle was 13th among 24 throwers and second on the ISU team. Her best toss was 56′ 8-3/4′ (17.29 meters).
