After Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced the public health emergency proclamation will soon expire, local lawmakers are weighing in.
Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says he is appreciative and glad that the governor made the decision to allow the public health emergency proclamation to expire tomorrow.
“We have been dealing with COVID for a very long time now, it is a part of who we are as a society and moving forward we need to deal with it like we do every other infectious disease and that’s what we have been doing in the State of Iowa.”
Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio that if some of the pieces contained in the proclamation were to be continued it would need to be done through the legislative process and Nordman says he is thankful for that stance from the governor.
“At the end of the day we do not have a dictatorship, we cannot continue to govern on emergency proclamations. The governor knows that, she respects that, she sees that and as she said we are going to treat COVID like we do every other infectious disease, it’s a part of our society now and we have to move forward and we have to get on with our lives.”
The public health emergency proclamation is set to expire tomorrow.
