U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne

IowaGovernor Kim Reynolds has ended the public health disaster emergency proclamation and an U.S. representative weighs in on the decision.

Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative Cindy Axne says she wants to get back to normal but believes the Governor can’t proclaim the pandemic to be over. Axne says she is afraid that the end of the proclamation will send a message to Iowans that they don’t need to get vaccinated.

She did say that, you know, she wants to treat this like other illnesses like the flu, so I say to that people go and get their flu shot every year. Then let’s encourage folks to get a COVID vaccine as well.”

The Governor also deactivated the state’s websites that track virus data and provide vaccination information. In the Governor’s press release, they will still have similar information at the Iowa Department of Public Health’s website.
