
A fantastic shooting display was key for the Dallas Center- Grimes girls basketball team, as they were able to hit 10 threes on the day and fly past the Benton Bobcats 64-38. The win is the fifteenth straight for the Mustangs, and more importantly, allows them to move to the semifinals of the 4A state tournament.
The Mustangs were able to get out to a furious start, as they were able to jump out to a quick 11-2 lead, and lead 19-10 after one quarter of play. Benton played a good second quarter, as they slowed the Mustang attack, but two late first half threes by Ella Lampe pushed the DCG lead to 36-22.
The second half, DCG was able to ramp up the defensive pressure while slowing the tempo down, and were able to wear down the spirited upset attempt of the Bobcats. The Mustangs were able to shoot 56% percent fomr the field, put up 26 points in the paint, and only turned over the ball seven times overall throughout the day.
Lampe was able to lead the Mustangs with 15 points, and Emma Miner was able to add 11 points to the deep DCG attack, with seven players scoring at least five points.
For the Mustangs, they will be playing at 5 o’clock on Thursday afternoon against Cedar Rapids – Xavier. Coverage will be on 997, 943, and AM 1310 KDLS.
