The Greene County Cattlemen’s Association Banquet and Trophy Auction had a successful night last Saturday.
According to the non-profit organization, they raised about $25,000 and about 200 people went to the event that was held at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds. There were 42 items on this year’s auction and Hamilton Redi-Mix reclaimed the traveling trophy from Landus Cooperative as the business that donated the most money with $2,000. Another highlight of the night was honoring two retiring board members with Tom Lawton and Mike Holden. The Cattlemen also recognized 18 scholarship winners from last year and 11 were in attendance.
The final three additional auction items were half a beef donated by Fitzpatrick Cattle, half a lamb given from Dr. Steve Karber and half a hog from Connor and Cale Juergensen. Following the auction was a special fundraiser for the McDonald/Oakes Benefit, who were the two youth that were involved in a cabin fire on New Year’s Day and one of the victims, 15-year-old Harley McDonald passed away from his injuries. The fundraiser was a whole ribeye loin that was auctioned off and donated back several times. That item raised $7,100.
The proceeds from the auction goes back to the Cattlemen to benefit the youth in the community and beef promotions.
