Thursday was Media Day for the girls and boys track & field squads at Greene County High School. Around 80 girls and boys are out for the sport with slightly more boys than girls. The Rams have some indoor meets the next two weeks, then are scheduled to begin the outdoor season with the Greene County Early Bird Co-Ed Meet on Monday, March 28 at Linduska Field in Jefferson. Derek Merk is the girls’ head coach and Chad Morton coaches the boys.

Both teams return some State Meet experience and the numbers out for the sport should help both score points throughout the regular season. The girls are especially young with no senior returning letter winners and only one senior on the team and she’s a foreign exchange student. The boys’ have more balance throughout the four grades.

The girls get things started with the March 7 A.D. Dickinson Relays inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The boys go to the Dickinson Relays on March 8.
