Tonight there are open auditions for the next History Boy Theatre Company production.

The non-profit, regional theater company will be performing the musical, “Rock of Ages” in May. The musical is based in the end of the 1980s in Hollywood, where an aspiring rock star takes the stage of one of the Sunset Strip’s venues to be the “next big thing.” However, German developers want to turn the area into a capitalist strip mall. 

Auditions will be held at 4pm at History Boy Theatre in Jefferson. There are six male and three female roles and several other ensemble roles as well. Anyone wanting to audition must prepare about a one minute song of their choice. A description of the characters can be found below.

Characters in “Rock of Ages”:

Drew: Male, An appealing good guy rocker with boyish charm. Works as a bar back at the Bourbon Room waiting for his dreams to come true.  Very strong rock tenor voice.

Sherrie: Female, A pretty, innocent  Midwestern girl entering a new world to pursue her dreams of stardom in L.A. Strong rock belt

Lonny: Male, The narrator of the piece; charming, mischievous, with a vibrant personality. A slightly unappealing appearance but doesn’t see it. Strong improv skills and rock vocals.

Dennis Dupree: Male, Classic stoner type guy who runs the famous Bourbon Room. Torn about selling the club to the developers. A laid back, easy going dude’s real dude. Bari-tenor rock vocals.

Stacee Jaxx: Male, An oversexed, sexy rock star. At the top of his game, he has left his band to venture out on his own. Arrogant and charming…Strong rock tenor voice.

Justice: Female, Commanding presence, easy sensuality about her. Once a performer, she now operates a strip club. She is a sultry, maternal, and sexy madam. Strong soulful vocals and belt needed.

Hertz Klinemann: Male, An attractive, older gentleman. Uptight, cold, & intimidating businessman trying to buy up the strip. He is our villian and must have a strong German accent. Baritone vocals

Franz Klinemann: Male, Hertz’s floppish son, young German male. Works for his father but not by choice. Shy, gentle with a big heart.  Strong vocals and German accent needed.

Regina: Female, A fun, hippie type, tree hugging fighter who will stop at nothing to protect the Sunset Strip. Strong belt vocals.
