Paton-Churdan High School senior Bradyn Smith talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about his selection to the South roster of the 50th Iowa Shrine Football All-Star game on Saturday, July 23. An All-State linebacker the last two seasons for Greene County through an athletic sharing agreement, Smith will be joining his head coach, Caden Duncan, who will serve as the Offensive Coordinator for the South as they take on the North inside the air-conditioned UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Smith, Duncan, and Smith’s parents, Jake & Annie, were present at a Shrine Bowl introductory dinner on March 9 in Altoona at Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. Bradyn said he was super-excited when he heard he had been selected to play in the game. One of the highlights of the week is players meeting and playing with some of the patients at Shriners Children’s Hospital, which all proceeds go toward. Families of those children don’t pay for care and it’s events like the July 23 football game that make that possible.

Smith will be around Greene County in the coming weeks asking for sponsors of his appearance and for ad space in the Shrine Bowl Game program. He’s not planning on pursuing a football career beyond high school, so July 23 may be the last time Smith puts on the pads.
