Greene County boys’ head track & field coach Chad Morton was pleased with his team at Friday’s meet in Ames at the Lied Recreation Center on the Iowa State Campus. The setting was the Iowa Association of Track Coaches (IATC) Indoor Championships, held under a new format. Instead of all four classes competing together, each of Iowa’s four sizes of schools competed on their own and team scoring was held.
The Rams were seventh in Class 2A with 26 points. Coach Morton told Raccoon Valley Radio “There were some great performances, some PRs (personal records) and top 10 finishes. I was VERY happy with everyone’s efforts. It was a great event to find out where we are at and the things we need to improve on.”
A pair of second place finishes led the Rams on Friday and both were in hurdles events. Senior Jackson Morton was second in 8:43 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, and the Rams also were second in the 60 meter shuttle hurdle relay. Seniors Bryce Stalder and Nate Black were the first two legs with junior Richard Daugherty running third and Morton on the anchor.
This week the Greene County School District is on Spring Break, but the Rams will compete on Saturday in Storm Lake at Buena Vista University’s indoor facility to close out the indoor schedule. The outdoor season is set to begin with Greene County’s Early Bird Meet in Jefferson on Monday, March 28.
