For one local school’s jazz choir, they will be performing in the Iowa Vocal Jazz Choir Championships next week.
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Varsity Jazz Choir Amp was invited to perform at the 2022 Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships which will be hosted by Valley High School on March 29th and Amp will performing at 3:30 p.m.
The choir is directed by Becca Cassel who says the choir being selected to go to the championships is a good feeling, especially when it’s something that has become a regular standard for the choir throughout the years as this is the seventh time in ten years Amp has been selected.
“It just reinforces some of the things that we work on and just knowing that it’s a really tough field. I mean there is a lot of great choirs. There’s some that have done really well and still were in that ninth, tenth, eleventh spot and so it just reinforces the things that we work hard about and the stylistic things that we practice in terms of jazz choir and vocal jazz. So, we are just excited, it’s a huge honor so we are excited to have them perform and just do their best.”
The choir was selected by a panel of adjudicators from a video submission of two songs in their set and Amp was just one of eight Class 3A choirs selected from across Iowa.
