As lawmakers continue to meet in the 2022 Iowa Legislative Session, one local lawmaker shares the priorities for the remainder of the session.
Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says he feels a lot of heavy lifting was done early on in the session which saw tax reform passed which includes a 3.9-percent flat tax and removing taxes on retirement but Nordman says there are topics left to be discussed.
“I think we still have a number of topics that are still on the table. Obviously, the remaining budgets that we will be discussing but we also have topics like medical freedom, school choice and tort reform.”
Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio one of his main priorities coming into this year’s legislative session was the tax reform that occurred earlier in the session. Nordman shares some of his other topics he would like to see discussed more this session.
“I would like to see some movement on the governor’s school choice proposal. I think it’s a very targeted and smart proposal on how we should move forward with school choice and making sure that parents are having a voice at the table in their child’s education. There is some education transparency bills that are still being worked on and discussed, I am looking forward to voting for those when they come to the House floor and also medical freedom and tort reform. I think those are two very important topics.”
The 2022 Iowa Legislative Session is scheduled to end on April 19th.
