The Panorama Panthers girls track and field team has gotten just a few opportunities to get out and compete so far this year due to the mother nature, but for the athletes they are getting a good start to the season.

Jaidyn Sellers is a sophomore athlete for the Panorama Panthers girls track and field team and last year saw her become a state champion in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. This year through a few meets she has competed in she has once again finished at the top. At Panorama’s most recent meet, the Kip Janvrin Invitational, Sellers finished first in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes which is something head coach Greg Thompson says was impressive due to weather conditions.

“That weather kind of came up on us and the wind changed directions on us. We were expecting more of a cross breeze on our track so that shouldn’t have affected the straightaway running but it was actually in their face for everybody who was trying coming down that last home straightaway. So, running a 100 into the wind at 12.88 is pretty impressive.”

There were also some other impressive performances at the Kip Janvrin Invitational as Payton Beckman came in fourth in the 800 meter, Zoey Hambleton came in sixth in the 100 meter hurdles and Jazmyn Sellers came in first in the discus throw. Thompson says there were season best performances in nine of the events at the Kip Janvrin Invitational.

“I thought with the weather the way it was, it was cold, it was windy, it rained on us a little bit there at the beginning of the meet. I told our kids that I was really pleased with how they persevered, they battled through and continued to put out good performances.”

The Panorama Panthers girls track and field team will get back out for regular competition next week on Tuesday when they head to Earlham for a meet beginning at 4:30 p.m.
