The community of Guthrie Center packed the activity center for the fourth annual “Celebrate Guthrie Center,” event hosted by the Guthrie Center Chamber of Commerce, Friday afternoon.
The event started with a dinner then after everyone ate a few representatives gave updates on their respective organizations or entities. The presentations started with Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center School District Superintendent Dennis McClain who updated those that gathered about student successes and improvements to the high school. Mayor Mike Herbert highlighted the City’s infrastructure projects as well as the Community Block Grant opportunity. Also, Guthrie Center Area Development Group President Dennis Flanery informed those in attendance about the developing properties and businesses. The night wrapped up with the presentation of the “Volunteer of The Year Award,” going to Dennis Flanery for all his hard work in the community. Flanery told Raccoon Valley Radio what this means to him.
“Totally caught off guard. I had actually nominated somebody I thought was more worthy than myself. but no I’m honored. It’s a wonderful acknowledgement, I guess.”
