A Jefferson man was arrested for allegedly striking another person with a bat.

According to the Jefferson Police Department, officers responded to a report of someone trespassing at the home of Ryan Murphy at 1:27am Thursday in the 200 block of North Locust Street. Murphy claimed his friend wanted to come inside and Murphy denied him access. Murphy says his friend then disconnected an outside generator that was powering his home. 

During the investigation, it was discovered that Murphy used a baseball bat to strike the other person several times, causing injuries. The victim handed the weapon that Murphy used in the incident to authorities. The victim was taken to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Ambulance for his injuries. Murphy was then arrested and charged with a Class D Felony for willful injury causing bodily injury. He was additionally arrested for a probation violation from a previous conviction in October of 2021. Murphy was booked into the Greene County Jail.
