The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents in the Paton and Churdan areas about the possibility of severe weather tonight.

Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio in the event there is a tornado warning issued for the communities of Paton or Churdan, fire trucks will be driving through the communities sounding their sirens and lights. Williams says the severe weather sirens in those communities are currently not functioning and so the fire trucks sirens and lights will act as the severe weather warning. There is no timetable for when the severe weather sirens will be repaired.

According to the National Weather Service, Greene County is under a moderate risk for severe weather and is part of the area designated as the greatest threat for strong tornadoes. The National Weather Service anticipates the peak times for severe weather to be during the late evening to overnight hours.
