The Perry City Council recently approved multiple voluntary annexations of land which is bringing more development space to Perry.

The Council approved the annexations of multiple different parcels of land throughout Dallas County that adjoin the Perry city limits. City Administrator Sven Peterson says this will help encourage growth while increasing the tax base, adding more population and having more users helping to pay for the $28 million wastewater treatment facility improvements project. Peterson says some of the land includes a portion near 31st Street.

“So, that’s really looking more towards residential development, hopefully adding some new homes, hopefully a variety of types, sizes, things like that to be able to attract a wide variety of homeowners to that area. Also, hopefully some rentals too.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio another portion of land includes an area east of the current industrial park. Peterson says the City is looking to bring in approximately 170 to 180 acres of property there that could potentially be used to expand the industrial park or have other uses.

“Both great opportunities, able to bring a little bit of tax base into the community immediately with that agricultural land but ultimately looking to grow our community, have more housing options available and have more job opportunities available in some of those areas.”

The voluntary annexations were approved at the Perry City Council meeting on April 18th.
