A bill that was passed by both the Iowa House and Senate comes after a recent announcement from President Joe Biden.

President Biden came to Menlo, Iowa earlier this month and said he was lifting the restriction ban on selling E-15 gasoline year round. The Iowa Legislature has been working on a biofuels bill, House File 2128, that would require certain gas stations to sell E-15, or 15-percent ethanol blended gasoline. The bill passed both chambers earlier this week and includes ways for retailers to opt out.

District 24 Senator Jesse Green of Boone supports Biden’s announcement of lifting the ban on selling E-15 year round and he believes that helped pass this bill.

“Well you’ve got to give credit where credit is due. I’m grateful that President Biden did this. There was some retailers that rightly were like, ‘You’re going to mandate me to sell E-15, when by federal law we can’t in the summertime, so you’re going to force me to break law?’ I think that was a little bit of an inflated thing, but nevertheless, they were pretty right. For President Biden to lift that restriction is now going to ease just a little more fear from these retailers.”

The bill has a sunset date of 2026 of when retailers would be required to sell E-15 at the gas pump. Click the link below to view the bill.
